I’m so excited to bring you an interview series of some of the best in the beauty business. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet so many AMAZING beauty pros and want to bring you their tips, tricks and stories.
First up is the talented Session Hairstylist Nicholas Shatarah. Nicholas is based in New York and I got to ask him all about his career.
How did you get started in the beauty industry?
My father and sister are both hairsylists and it was something that I had no interest doing at first. I wanted to be a musician. One day I went to the salon to get a haircut from my sister. While I was waiting I said to myself, I can do this! That week I enrolled into Beauty School. It was about me wanting to get into the industry when I wanted to.
What is your favorite thing about working in beauty?
Being behind the chair you share the highs and lows with your clients and I feel lucky to be a part of their lives and them being a part of mine. It’s the little things to me, making someone feel beautiful with something as little as a bang trim. I am lucky to do the session work that I do, that’s where it’s first hand. I get to work with some of the most talented designers, models, photographers, etc. Where I can create beautiful looks that you see in magazines. (Nicholas recently styled Snooki for Annex Magazine!)
What is your #1 beauty tip?
Invest in the right hair products, bargain shopping for your hair is a NO NO. Something as little as buying the right shampoo will make your hair feel that much better.
What are some of your favorite tools and products?
Being an editorial hair stylist ,I have had the pleasure of connecting with the company T3. T3 micro was very nice to send me a care package of some of their select styling tools. One styling tool that stood out for me was the T3 Single Pass Whirl. Some of the features of this out standing tool are.
Auto shutoff - If left on for more then an hr the iron will shutoff
Temperature Adjustment - 280 to 450 degrees
Ceramic Barrel - Heats up quickly and locks in moisture for shiny hair
Cooling Tip and Stand - Having a build in stands is a bonus when your working, just to fact you are not worried about burning the counter you are working on
Tapered Barrel - The Base of the Iron is 1.25 and tappers down for a more natural wave
The 1st time I used this iron was for a magazine shoot for Annex magazine. Where I was lucky to work with The Jersey Shores “Snooki”. Nicole “Snooki” has very thick hair with hair extensions and using the T3 single pass whirl, helped me wave her hair with ease and speed. It is a wonder why I haven’t tried this tool long ago.
If you are looking for an Iron that is light weight and achieves natural looking waves I suggest the T3micro Single Pass Whirl
